We help create and maintain healthy, abundant, and ecologically vibrant landscapes. Specializing in small ornamentals and fruiting species under 12 feet.
Our year-round services include help with pruning, restoration, grafting, pest and disease management, planting, design and DIY education.
How it works:
New clients start with a consultation to answer your questions about your trees and build a plan that meets your needs. While I can advise on all trees I can only work on trees 12ft or smaller.
New client consultation: 1 hour, $100
We will review your environment, share knowledge about care, and develop a plan for your trees. This consultation can be used to learn more about how to care for your plants yourself, or to get on our schedule for regular pruning. We work on trees, shrubs, and vines up to 12 feet tall.
Hourly rate: $120 per hour, with a 2 hour minimum
We work on trees, shrubs, and vines up to 12 feet tall. Most trees take 1-3 hours. This time will include cleanup and set up.
We accept cash and check
Travel Fee:
Locations further than 20 minutes from our North Portland base will be charged our hourly rate for additional travel time.
What happens with the debris?
Currently, we do not offer hauling. We will fill any compost bins, and leave a neat pile of what does not fit, or if you would prefer to clean up the debris yourself and save us some time we can “chop and drop” or leave a rough pile by the trees.

About Sadie Wechsler
Sadie comes to arboriculture from a lifelong love of trees. She has received a Career Pathway in Arboriculture Certificate from Portland Community College, interned at the Home Orchard Education Center, and ran a large and successful home orchard care business. She has run local workshops for the community and trained folks with Connecting Canopies, a workforce development program here in Portland. Prior to founding Understory Specialty Tree Care, Sadie worked as the Tree Care Manager for Portland Fruit Tree Project. She also brings deep experience as an artist and arts educator to her pruning work.
